OJAS STATE AWARDS
American Junior Academy of Science Meeting (AJAS/NAAS/AAAS)
Selection as Oklahoma’s Delegates to the Annual Meeting of the American Junior Academy of Science trip, where the students present their posters during a special poster session of the AAAS/NAAS conference. Highlights include a breakfast with this country’s distinguished scientists, tours of elite laboratories, and discussion of their research interests with other top science students. Juniors and seniors are eligible for this award.
Jimmie Pigg Outstanding Teacher Award
The late Jimmie Pigg was a teacher, biologist, and creator of the modern Oklahoma Junior Academy of Science. He tirelessly involved his students in original scientific research and many have become scientists and/or science teachers. They attribute their love of science to the example he set when they were his students. This Award for Outstanding Science Teaching commemorates the dedication of this extraordinary teacher to scientific endeavors and student learning. This award is given to an Oklahoma science teacher who best exhibits these same qualities. The recipient receives $1,000, an award, and our grateful appreciation of for untiring dedication to students. This award was established and funded through the generous endowment in the estate of the late Jimmie Pigg.
National Youth Science Camp
Special Award provided by OJAS on behalf of the Governor’s office, the State Department of Education, and the National Youth Foundation. (This 1 month camp in June is held in West Virginia and changes lives. Every student who has attended has been positively impacted.). Certification of 4 Seniors as Oklahoma’s 2 Delegates and 2 Alternates to the National Youth Science Camp in West Virginia.
Oklahoma Science Teachers Association Award
The Oklahoma Science Teachers Association Award of $50 for the best junior high research paper to display the principles of acceptable research.
Oklahoma Native Plant Society Harriet Barkley Awards
The Oklahoma Native Plant Society Award of $50, ONPS membership, and plaque for the most promising junior high research paper in the area of Botany. Donor: Oklahoma Native Plant Society.

Ruth Richardson Magrath Awards
The Ruth Richardson Magrath Award of $100 and plaque for best written presentation in a junior high research paper. Donor: Dr. Larry Magrath (deceased).

Oklahoma Society of Clinical Laboratory Educators Award
The Oklahoma Society of Clinical Laboratory Educators Award includes a plaque and $50 for best research paper in the area of Clinical Laboratory Research Science, Biomedicine, or Microbiology. Donor: Oklahoma Society of Clinical Laboratory Educators.
The OJAS Jimmie Pigg Outstanding Research in Aquatic Biology Awards
Jimmie Pigg was an outstanding educator and scientist. In addition, he was recognized across the US as an expert on Oklahoma fish. He set aside funds in his estate to establish these awards to recognize outstanding research efforts in aquatic biology.

The University of Oklahoma Biological Station Plaque Field Biology Award
The University of Oklahoma Biological Station Award for Outstanding Research of a senior high student in the area of Field Biology. $100. Donor: Friends of the OU Biological Station.
Dr. Don Noble Award
The OJAS Dr. Don Noble Award includes a plaque for the best research in the area of medical research in the junior high division.
Dr. Jeff Black Memorial Natural History Awards
The OJAS Dr. Jeff Black Memorial Award includes a plaque and $20 for the best research in the area of natural history in the junior high division. Donor: Dr. Elmer Brown.

Dr. Kathleen Donovan Memorial Award
Dr. Kathleen Donovan served as OJAS Director from 2000 until she passed away with cancer in 2006. She was a Professor of Psychology at the University of Central Oklahoma where she taught courses that focused on experimental design. Through the years, her students received numerous state and national awards for their research endeavors. This award honors Dr. Donovan by recognizing a high student for excellence in experimental design, and includes a plaque and a $100. Donor: Kathleen Donovan Memorial Fund.
Dr. Harry Love Award
The Dr. Harry Love Award recognizes a junior high student for excellence in experimental design, and includes a plaque and a $40. Donor: Dr. Elmer Brown.
Oklahoma Psychological Society Awards
The Oklahoma Psychological Society Award (plaque) and $75 for the best research in the area of Human Behavior in the junior high division. Donor: Oklahoma Psychological Society.

Subscription to Science
The judges may select one male and one female from the senior high division to each receive a one-year subscription to Science. Donor: American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Division and Category Awards
Overall winners in each the two divisions (Biological and Physical Sciences) will be recognized: 1st Place $150, 2nd Place $100, and 3rd Place $75. In addition, category winners will also be named and awarded lesser amounts. The exact number of categories, number of places, and final determinations will be made by the judges and State OJAS Director.
