MISSION

Stimulate scientific research

Encourage fratenal relationship and the sharing of ideas among Oklahomans working in the sciences

Foster through meetings and publications the dissemination of science related ideas to all Oklahomans interested in the sciences.

Promote the scope and relevance of science to state citizens

Investigate and publicize natural, educational and other resources of the state

Counsel government and educational agencies on the advancement of state science programs

Enlist industrial participation in scientific research and education

ACTIVITIES

OJAS sponsors regional and state scientific competitions and meetings. We also recognize educators, scientists and organizations for scientific endeavors within the state that support various secondary student  research programs, including student awards for outstanding scientific research papres and presentations, and promotes collegiate student research with scholarships.

PUBLICATIONS

The Transactions of the Oklahoma Junior Academy of Science, an annual publication includes outstanding Oklahoma secondary science student research papers and information on the Junior Academy activities and business.   NOTE: The 1996 to 2007 OJAS Transactions are available on this web site.

ANNUAL MEETINGS

The Oklahoma Junior Academy of Science sponsors a meeting each spring. 

The meeting is the OJAS State Competition held in late March or early April in conjunction with the Oklahoma ISSEF competition. This meeting is held at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. The agenda includes secondary student research paper competition from the thirteen regional finalists. The program includes oral presentations, award presentations, and Junior Academy business.

Each spring and fall, OJAS in conjunction with the OAS sponsors field trips to encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of Oklahoma geology, ecology flora, fauna, geography and history. Family participation is encouraged as is the inclusion of nonmember visitors. The locations of both the Technical and Field meetings varies within the State from meeting to meeting.
